The finals of The TallShipsRaces – traffic organisation

The largest outdoor event in our city is only two weeks away. Below are some important organisational guidelines for residents, especially those living or working within the event’s area.

Major events in our city make it necessary to introduce temporary changes in traffic and public transport organisation. Some streets will be closed, and additional bus and tram service will be provided to make it easier for residents to get to the event’s area and conveniently return home. Drivers and passengers are kindly requested to familiarise themselves with what awaits them during the finals of The TallShipsRaces 2024 and in the preparatory period.

      1. Traffic organisation

Changes to traffic and public transport organisation will be introduced in stages, starting from 27 July. Szczecin residents and visitors are encouraged to use public transport. Additional lines will be provided; some regular lines will be extended until late at night, and additional service will be offered. 1. Passes

In connection with The TallShipsRaces and the planned changes in traffic organisation, involving, in particular, the closure of some streets in the period from 29 July to 6 August, the organisers have designated two zones:

      a red zone to which entry will be restricted exclusively for vehicles of the organiser, authorised services and companies having their seats in that zone. A deposit will be charged for each pass issued, in accordance with the applicable regulations;

a blue zone to which entry (along with a parking option) will be restricted exclusively for residents and employees of companies and institutions located in the following streets: Małopolska, Pobożnego, Zygmunta Starego, Szczerbcowa, Wawelska, Kapitańska, Storrady, Zbożowa at the section up to the junction with Spichrzowa Streets, and for holders of passes to the red zone.

      1. Residents of the above-listed streets will receive one pass per dwelling. In order to receive a pass, proof of residence, i.e., a paid bill with the address of the premises or registration at the correct address, must be presented at the pass office.
      2. Companies and institutions operating in the above-listed streets will receive two passes per company/institution.
      3. Companies with their own car parks will receive the number of passes corresponding to the number of parking spaces they have.
      4. Passes must be shown each time upon entry to the event’s area, at the control point, and then left in the car in a visible place, with the data side up.
      5. A valid pass should contain data in all required boxes, including the following: vehicle registration number, contact number, company name.
      6. A valid pass allows one vehicle, whose registration number is stated on the pass, to enter the restricted-traffic zone.

Passes can only be collected from 19 July to 5 August at the Pass Office located at Jana z Kolna Street 6 (the former Marine Station). Office hours: Monday – Friday: 08.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m., Saturday – Sunday: 10.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m.

IMPORTANT NOTE! In the red zone, parking will be allowed only in designated spaces for vehicles with special passes. Vehicles without proper passes, when left in the zones excluded from traffic, will be towed away at the owner’s expense.

As part of the contract concluded between the Urban Transport Authority and Polregio, on 2-4 August 2024, passengers holding season tickets (paper or electronic) will be allowed to use Polregio trains (regional transport) within the Szczecin Municipality, according to the regular timetable.

Polregio will also provide three additional trains to pick up passengers at night (around midnight) once the event is over. The trains will run from Szczecin Główny to Stargard, from Szczecin Główny to Gryfino and from Szczecin Główny to Goleniów, on 2/3 August, 3/4 August and 4/5 August. Polregio train tickets will be recognised as valid.

      1. Car parks

You are encouraged to leave your cars in a car park and use public transport. There are several Park&Ride car parks in the city – for instance, those located near the interchange centres at Hangarowa, Turkusowa, Energetyków and Szafera Streets by the Głębokie junction. In addition, as part of a contract concluded with the rail operator, you can also transfer to a train and leave your car at the Fast Urban Railway (SKM) car parks.

      1. Safety issues

During the finales of The TallShipsRaces, an Integrated Management Station will operate on Bielawa Island, involving officers from the Municipal Police, the Szczecin City Guard, the Szczecin Volunteer Water Rescue Service, the Regional Ambulance Station, the Crisis Management and Civil Protection Department, the State Fire Brigade, and the FORT security company.

We would also like to remind you of some basic safety rules that can protect you from theft during The TallShipsRaces and other large outdoor events.

      • Make sure that your documents and money are safe.
      • Pay special attention to people around you.
      • Remember that it’s easier to rob a person who is under the influence of alcohol.
      • Do not carry more cash than you may actually need.
      • Keep your money in two places – this will lower the risk of losing the whole sum.
      • Don’t open your wallet so that bystanders could see it.
      • Have your eye on your luggage/bag/backpack.
      • Keep your bags and packages in front of you.
      • Pay attention to people trying to make a fake crowd.
      • Keep your wallet deep in the handbag or rucksack.
      • Keep your keys and address documents in different places.
      • Raise an alarm in case of emergency, e.g., attempted pick-pocketing.
