The Large Courtyard of the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle
In 2016, the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle hosted a cross-section presentation of the achievements of Richard Hess entitled Creations of Intimacy.
Currently, the Large Courtyard hosts five works by the artist, which, thanks to the courtesy of the sculptor's family, have been a deposit of the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle in Szczecin for several years: "The End of the War" a fragment of the monument "Rider IV" (1991, bronze), "The Great Minotaur II" (1989, bronze), "The Great Hair Dryer" (1983, bronze), "The Great Walker" (1981, bronze), "Caryatid III" (1998, bronze).
Richard Hess (1937-2017) was one of the most important contemporary German sculptors. He graduated from the Berlin Higher School of Visual Arts (HBK). He created open-air and intimate figurative sculptures with deep emotional overtones. He was inspired by humans as individuals. He also created poignant works relating to social, historical and political events.
The artist's works are now in many European institutions, museums, and private collections.
The castle courtyards are open daily from 06:00-23:00.
