The Lentz Villa
This May, art enthusiasts are warmly invited to Villa Lentza for the opening of a remarkable exhibition: “Szczecin Painting 1945–1989: From Private and Institutional Collections”, an evocative visual journey through nearly half a century of artistic creation in post-war Szczecin. Curated by Magdalena Tyczka, and jointly organised by Villa Lentza and the Szczecin Club of Collectors and Enthusiasts of Painting and Historic Art, the exhibition pays tribute to the artists—painters, sculptors, graphic designers, and visual pioneers—who shaped the city's cultural identity from the dramatic post-war years through to the experimental spirit of the 1980s. From sombre depictions of war-torn beginnings to vivid cityscapes, maritime vistas, and avant-garde abstraction, the display reveals the breadth and depth of Szczecin’s creative spirit. The exhibition celebrates not only the artists who arrived in the city from across Poland and beyond, bringing with them diverse backgrounds and experiences, but also those whose artistic paths were forged entirely within post-war Szczecin. The works on display are drawn from private collectors and prestigious cultural institutions, including the Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle, Pomeranian Library, and Szczecin City Hall. Join us in commemorating 80 years of Polish Szczecin with an exhibition that honours its artistic heritage and the many hands and hearts that have shaped it.
Admission to the opening on 15 May is free.
