Vestas has announced the construction of another factory in Szczecin

Danish company Vestas, a global player in the offshore industry, has announced the construction of another production facility in Szczecin. The factory will be producing new-generation blades for wind turbines. The facility is planned to go into full operation in 2026 and is expected to offer more than a thousand new jobs.

As can be read in the company’s official statement, the factory will be built in the northern part of Szczecin, in Skolwin. As part of the investment, production halls will be erected together with a social and administrative section. The facility will be producing blades for the Vestas flagship offshore wind turbine ‒ the V236-15.0 MW.

Vestas intends to lead the development of a sustainable supply chain in Europe that will be capable of providing the scale necessary to meet the anticipated increased demand for offshore wind energy. Our plans to establish two new offshore plants in Poland reflect Europe’s ability to drive investment in the wind industry and green jobs with the appropriate long-term commitment to offshore wind projects, said Tommy Rahbek Nielsen, COO of Vestas.

The production in Szczecin is expected to largely meet the demand for Polish and foreign projects.

Representatives of the local government, universities and experts agree that Vestas investment activities have opened a new chapter in Szczecin’s economic history, marking a very important and innovative step forward.

“I hope that Szczecin will soon become the offshore capital of Poland. Two factories launched by a global leader in such a short period, right in our city, make Szczecin unique on the European, and perhaps even global scale”, said Piotr Krzystek, Mayor of Szczecin. “These investments will entail new professions and competencies on the labour market, which is also an incentive for all those willing to operate in this attractive sector to focus their attention on Szczecin”.

The Szczecin authorities emphasise that it is important for our native companies to join the supply chain, too. The city’s representatives are also aware of the challenges they are facing, related to effective offshore education and qualified personnel. To strengthen these areas, the local government intends to work closely with our partners, job centres and associations. The construction of the factory in Skolwin is not the only investment by Vestas in Szczecin.

The new plant is not far from Ostrów Brdowski, an island situated in Szczecin where Vestas is planning to set up another factory to assemble nacelles for wind turbines. This facility is also planned to launch its operations in 2025, offering 700 jobs.

Thanks to the two new factories in Szczecin, coupled with Vestas’ steadily growing organisation in Poland over the past 20 years, it is expected that the Danish company will be soon employing more than 2,500 people in our country.
