The new look of Batory Square

Another green part of Szczecin's city centre will be transformed. There will be a fountain, new alleys, as well as relaxation and entertainment spots.

The project aims to restore the basic historical appearance and character of the Square, including by maintaining its layout and geometry and introducing two main pedestrian routes with mineral surfaces. A fountain will be constructed in place of the fire reservoir.

“The existing greenery will be preserved and made more prominent, including London platanetrees and yews, which will be surrounded by benches and illuminated,” said Paulina Łątka from the City Information Centre. “Games for children and youth are planned in separate spaces.”

Various elements, such as low walls and benches, will be made using materials reminiscent of the Maritime Office building, which naturally encloses the square, including bricks and green woodwork.

The project has been consulted on with the New Town Housing Estate Council, which allocated its entire five-year investment budget, i.e. PLN 1 million, for the reconstruction of Stefan Batory Square. The tendering process to select the contractor will start in the first half of 2021.
