Szczecin wants to buy new electric buses

The City of Szczecin is to buy 8 new electric buses. On 18 June 2021, the City applied for funding to the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW). The application also covers funds for the construction of charging stations.
The application was made for a project entitled "Green Public Transport in the Szczecin Municipality – Phase 1". The project will involve the procurement of 8 zero-emission articulated electric buses for SPA Klonowica Sp. z o.o. and the construction of rapid-charging stations along Kolumna, Owocowa, Kołłątaja and Szafera Streets. The new vehicles will be used to service lines 75 and 87.
The funds will come from national funding available under the "Green Public Transport" (Phase 1) Programme of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as part of the 1st Call for Proposals. The estimated value of the project is PLN 37,200,000.00 gross, of which PLN 23,695,122.00 is to be covered from the non-repayable support.
Electric public transport in Szczecin
Over the last few months, the City of Szczecin has been committed to upgrade its bus fleet. These actions involve the purchase of new vehicles as well as seeking and securing funding, and also investing in the supporting infrastructure. Through these recent and some future procurements, in the coming months, Szczecin will be getting as many as 22 new zero-emission vehicles.
In September 2020, the City signed a contract with SOLARIS Bus & Coach Sp. z o.o. to buy 8 articulated zero-emission buses. Those vehicles should be deployed in Szczecin this year. They were bought for PLN 32,344,080.00 gross. And this purchase was supported from a project entitled "Purchase of zero-emission buses with supporting infrastructure", Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020, Measure 6.1 Development of public transport in cities. The amount of funding secured is PLN 20,404,250.00.
The City also opened a tendering procedure to buy 6 short electric buses. Tenders are to be opened in early February 2021. As per the adopted schedule, these vehicles will be launched in Szczecin in 2020. This project will be supported from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, under the priority programme Green Investment Scheme (GIS) – Gepard (Cheetah) – Zero-emission public transport. The amount of funding secured is PLN 6,000,000.00. In addition, the City of Szczecin has applied for additional funding for the purchase of those buses under the Government Local Investments Fund. The application was made for PLN 9,000,000.00.
In early January 2021, the City concluded a tendering procedure for the construction of an electric bus charging station for 6 vehicles, as part of its project to upgrade the bus depot along Klonowica Street in Szczecin. The construction of this station will cost PLN 1,646,392.46.
