LOS CAFE
A Szczecin-based band playing music which can be classified as tango nuevo, musette, bolero – the pieces that they play, full of emotion and temperament, as creatively transposed and interpreted by outstanding instrumentalists. The repertoire of the band includes works by such masters of the genres as Carlos Gardel, Richard Galliano, Astor Piazzola, Henry Mancini, and Lars Danielsson …
LOS CAFE will take the audience to the musical world of South American rhythms and to the special area of genre transformations of ethnic music from early 20th century. Before tango, as a music genre, developed a specific rhythm and conquered Europe and the whole world, it was evolving as a popular dance in South America from the music of suburban bars, favelas and port taverns. The multitude of emotions this music evokes is demonstrated by the fact that the birthplace of milonga, a musical genre considered to be the precursor of tango, is still the subject of a heated cultural debate between Argentina and Uruguay....The audience can find these emotions in music performed by LOS CAFE!
The Orchestra of the Marine Unit of Border Guard in Gdańsk
The Orchestra is the pride of the Marine Unit of Border Guard and of the entire formation. It is composed of 25 musicians wearing navy uniforms. They provide musical setting for state celebrations, including events featuring highest state authorities, and a ceremonial setting during festivities organised by uniformed services. It is also close to the citizens, adding splendour to local and regional celebrations. In addition to march music, the orchestra also plays popular, film, and musical compositions arranged for wind orchestras.
The Orchestra of the Marine Unit of the Border Guard is, alongside the Representative Orchestra of the Border Guard from Nowy Sącz, one of two ensembles operating within this service. It celebrated its 70th anniversary last year.
Różanek / Sawaszkiewicz
Różanek is an author and performer, and his main occupation involves acting at the Polish Theatre in Szczecin. He released his first solo album in May, entitled “Płyta krótkogrająca” [Short Play Record] Borys Sawaszkiewicz is the musical producer of the record, and he mainly performs as a pianist and leader of Chango band.
Both artists enjoy creating music together and, even more so, processing what they have created. The Różanek / Sawaszkewicz recital is the vocal and piano interpretation of the “Short Play Record” album, which is intimate in form but spacious in sound.
4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
The birthday dance will revolve around Polish hits. It will be full of top-of-the-chart hits, timeless classics and more contemporary hits. Some of the music will also carry references to our beautiful City.
