Szczecin - a discrimination-free city

This is the title of the position adopted by the Mayor of Szczecin, in which he expressly declares his support for groups affected by discrimination, and identifies directions for the city's actions in this field.

Daniel Wacinkiewicz, Deputy Mayor, is responsible for coordinating the actions and the programme for counteracting discrimination.

“Szczecin has always been a diverse and tolerant place, and that is why, in this special time, we decided to adopt actual measures aimed at protecting fundamental human rights,” said Daniel Wacinkiewicz. “We do not want the declaration to be just a slogan, so the programme we are planning to develop is intended to be an actual response to the needs of social groups at risk of unequal treatment.

In addition to the declaration of opposition to discrimination, the document adopted by the Mayor also indicates a full support for such values as

1. opposition to any forms of discrimination,
2. opposition to use the issue of discrimination with a view to pursuing political objectives and building divisions among the residents,
3. active support for the idea of tolerance, equality, and respect for other people, in all aspects of community life,
4. educational activities dealing with the issue of discrimination and hate speech in public life,
5. provision of real support for persons who experience discrimination,
6. responsible approach to the issue of discrimination, taking into account the need for long-term measures and solutions,
7. development of a programme for counteracting discrimination and its impact.

The document will be presented to the councillors at the next City Council session.
