Successful tram ride on Wyszyński Street

The completion of work at the Wyszyński junction is approaching the end of work. On Thursday, the technical test rides on the tramway, which has so far been closed for use, were successfully completed.

In mid-December, it will therefore be possible to reintroduce target solutions in urban transport. Before all this happens, however, there is a need, among other things, to complete the work in the rail zones, which will cause additional difficulties for drivers.

“From November 30th, for a period of about 2 weeks, a temporary traffic organisation will be introduced, narrowing it down to one lane of Wyszyńskiego Street in the direction of Brama Portowa and temporary exclusion of Ucho Sternickiego from traffic”, informs Hanna Pieczyńska, spokesperson of Tramwaje Szczecińskie. – “After the completion of the works in the rail zone, stops and access to them, it will be possible to launch trams in all relations and remove obstacles for drivers.”

The contract includes greenery work, arrangement of the tracks, and hardening of the platforms and final finishing of the areas near the tracks. The contracted completion of the whole project is the end of January next year.

The scope of reconstruction of the “Wyszyński” junction included, among other things: reconstruction of tram and road infrastructure, lighting and partial underground utilities. The improvements will also be noticeable for public transport passengers due to the new stops and the reconstruction of the platforms.

“The works are also performed on the roadway, pavements and cycle path” says Hanna Pieczyńska. “The underground networks are being rebuilt and new elements such as steering and heating of the switches and the lubrication system will appear in the tram infrastructure.”

The tracks along Nabrzeże Wieleckiego will follow the existing trail. A two-way bus and tram lane was designed in the course of Wyszyńskiego Street, while an additional two-way tram connection in the direction of Wyszyńskiego - Stocznia Szczecińska has appeared on the track. The length of the designed tracks is nearly 1150 metres of single track.

Works at the “Wyszyński” and “Szarych Szeregów” junction are performed by the company ZUE S.A. at the amount of 44,894,559.07.

This task is implemented under the project entitled: “Reconstruction of tram tracks in Szczecin - Stage II” (subsidy agreement no. POIS.06.01.00-00-016/16-00) under Measure 6.1 Development of Public Transport in Cities, Priority Axis VI, Development of Low-Emission Public Transport in Cities of the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment.
