Report on the State of Szczecin City Municipality 2020

How is the city’s development strategy being implemented? To what extent has the pandemic affected the budget and investments? What about education, environmental protection and transport? There are plenty of questions about the functioning of our city. All the answers are contained in one document – the Report on the Sate of the Municipality. This condensed summary of the most important phenomena, activities, and processes that took place in Szczecin last year is now available online.

Functioning of the city in the face of coronavirus

As can be read in the Report, despite significant spending related to the pandemic, thanks to, among others, EU funds, the past year was a record one in terms of income and property expenditure. Szczecin spent 26.5% of its budget on investments, in total PLN 882.2 million. It is worth noting that this is the highest result in the history of the city.

The implementation of the extremely ambitious investment plan is not only continuing to change the face of the city, but also combating the negative effects of the pandemic. The continuation of work on building sites and the start of new tasks have made it possible to save a large number of jobs.

The Report focuses on the implementation of the most important municipal strategic documents, including the Strategy for Development of Szczecin 2025 and Long-Term Development of Szczecin and their offshoot concepts, plans and programmes, such as: Local Revitalisation Programme, the Plan for Sustainable Development of Public Collective Transport, Environmental Protection Programme and the Electromobility Development Strategy.

The document confirms that, in addition to investments and the development strategy, the priority areas for the city are the social sphere and municipal economy. Hence the emphasis on improving the quality of education, providing care for children and young people and numerous assistance programmers for families, as well as modern public transport, efficient waste segregation and programmes improving air quality.
