Coronavirus #54 – the appeal concerning Pomerania Euroregion
Marta Kufel

In the interest of the material situation of employees and the condition of the trade and services sector on the Polish-German border, Krzysztof Soska wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland regarding the adoption of specific legal regulations concerning the cross-border area. This is yet another appeal in this matter of the Deputy Mayor of Szczecin, who is also a representative of the Pomerania Euroregion.
The unique, border location of Szczecin and the surrounding municipalities has contributed to the fact that many inhabitants of the Pomerania Euroregion have been crossing the Polish-German border for professional purposes every day for years. Due to the ongoing epidemic of coronavirus and the introduction of many restrictions (e.g. closed borders and a two-week quarantine after crossing them) a lot of employees were almost overnight cut off from the source of their earnings and the means of living.
Therefore, being aware that movement restrictions increase the protection of residents against coronavirus, Krzysztof Soska as the Polish President of the Pomerania Euroregion appealed to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki to consider the possibility of adopting specific legal regulations regarding cross-border workers. The introduction of an adequate resolution would allow border residents to preserve the source of necessary for life and normal functioning income. In addition, the use of appropriate solutions would also give hope to quickly overcome the expected economic crisis in the region. At the same time, the Association of Polish Communes of the Pomerania Euroregion declared full readiness to cooperate in developing new solutions that would improve the situation of local cross-border workers.
