      Bomb in Łasztownia

It weighs 250 kg, about a half of which is explosives – an aerial bomb SC 250L/2 has been found on the property of Gryf Nieruchomości in Szczecin's Łasztownia. Sappers will remove the missile this Sunday. Because of the potential range of fire, this part of Szczecin will be closed and people living in this area will be evacuated.

The bomb is planned to be removed by sappers on 23 August in the morning. According to experts, the possible range of fire for shrapnel is up to 1,200 metres. Because of this, people living the closest to where the bomb was found will be evacuated. This is a major logistics operation, and is planned to start at 5:00am.

"This is not the first time a bomb was found in Szczecin, and certainly not the last," said Szczepan Stempiński, a representative of the Mayor in charge of security. "There was a similar event in 2013, when we also had to evacuate some residents. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. And we can assure you that the services will be there to provide full support.”

      What area will be evacuated?

Currently, the authorities expect that several hundred people will have to be evacuated. The specific number will depend on the actual number of people living in this area. The evacuation will also cover two local hotels,  Hotel Zamek and Hotel Focus.

The streets that will be evacuated include

Other areas to be evacuated include Łasztownia, including its levee and the personnel of the amusement fair living near Trasa Zamkowa.

      How will the evacuation proceed?

Transport companies will send their buses to Panieńska and Wendy Streets (at about 5:00. See the attached map). The buses will take evacuees to the assembly point, the Szczecin Sports Centre (Szczeciński Dom Sportu) at 16 Wąska St.

These operations will be preceded by an extensive information campaign in the media, an alarm signal, and municipal police (Straż Miejska) patrols' warning people about the danger. Notifications will be provided to local residents and building and property administrators.

After the operation, buses will take the evacuees back to their homes.

      Urban transport

All traffic in the area will be suspended about 30 minutes before sappers are deployed. The bomb removal operation is scheduled to commence between 6.00 and 6:30. The expected time needed to load the bomb is 40-60 minutes. The actual times may vary depending on how efficient the evacuation and the closing of the area are.

A detailed timetable for urban transport on that day will be published in a separate announcement.

      People with disabilities

People with disabilities will be evacuated by SOKON. For sick people, including ventilated patients, the transport will be handled by the Regional Ambulance Station (Wojewódzka Stacja Pogotowia Ratunkowego).

Safety precautions related to COVID-19 pandemics

During these operations, we will follow PSSE guidelines. All sanitary regime requirements will be met during the evacuation and transport to waiting areas. All evacuees will be provided with face masks and hand disinfectants.

We are still checking whether buildings planned for evacuation have any residents who are in quarantine or in isolation (so far, no such persons have been identified). But this might change even on the day before the operation. We are now developing procedures and preparing the resources necessary for the evacuation of such individuals.
