Big changes at the Pomeranian Overpass
Marta Kufel

On 4 May this year changes will be introduced in the traffic arrangement in connection with the redevelopment of the Pomeranian Overpass.
Due to the commencement of the next stage of works consisting in the renovation of the viaduct over the siding that leads to Zespół Elektrowni Dolna Odra S.A. (the Lower Oder River S.A. Power Plant Complex), changes were made to the traffic arrangement. The entire road leading out of the city located on the above-mentioned structure was excluded from traffic. The vehicles are using a bypass leading towards the supporting road, and then to the Pomeranian Overpass, which leaves the option of reaching Prawobrzeże (the Right Bank) is preserved.
In addition, due to road works on the northern supporting road (Górnośląska Street section - entrance to the heat and power plant), two passages under the Pomeranian Overpass were closed for traffic. Access to Górnośląska Street is possible through the last passage.
The difficulties will last for several weeks. Drivers are kindly requested to stay cautious.
About the project
The most important part of this task will be the redevelopment of the old tram and road viaduct in the vicinity of Gdańska Street. The facility, which was built in 1970s, is in a poor technical condition. For safety reasons, a comprehensive renovation of the entire structure is necessary. As a result of the works, the load-bearing capacity of the structure will also be increased up to 40 tons. As part of the project, the viaduct over the siding leading to Zespół Elektrowni Dolna Odra S.A. will also be redeveloped. This facility was built before 1945 and remodelled in 1970s. For safety reasons, its technical condition also requires comprehensive repair work. In addition, the works will cover the road system in the area of the Overpass. Both lanes of Gdańska Street and passages under the Overpass will be redeveloped. There will be sidewalks and cycling lanes. Underground networks and installations will be remodelled.
The project includes:
- redevelopment of both lanes of Gdańska Street in the area of the Pomeranian Overpass and the construction of new street junctions in order to improve connectivity;
- construction of pedestrian, cycling and shared zones;
- redevelopment of railway crossings intersecting Gdańska Street;
- redevelopment of conflicting underground and/or overground networks (electricity, sanitary, water supply, teletechnical networks);
- redevelopment /construction of public driveways;
- providing a drainage system through the redevelopment/construction of a rainwater drainage system together with treatment devices;
- road marking;
- increasing the load-bearing capacity of roads and streets;
- construction/redevelopment of street lighting;
- landscaping;
- upgrading the load-bearing capacity by rebuilding (strengthening) the structure of the road and tram viaduct.
