Art awards of the City of Szczecin granted

Konrad Pawicki, the After Blues band and Rafał Bajena. These are this year’s winners of the City of  Szczecin 2020 Art Award.  

The Art Award has been conferred since 1991 on Szczecin creators and cultural animators. Until now, the awards have been granted in two categories: for significant artistic achievements and for the candidate’s overall artistic activity. This year, the catalogue of achievements for which the award may be granted has been expanded to include an additional category, i.e. “innovative ideas and effective activities to promote culture”.

This year’s award winners are:

- for significant artistic achievements in 2020 – Konrad Pawicki

- for overall artistic activity – the After Blues band

- for innovative ideas and effective activities to promote culture in 2020 – Rafał Bajena

As in previous years, the Award is monetary. Its amount is 40,000 zlotys (for significant achievements and overall artistic activity) and 10,000 zlotys for innovative ideas and effective activities to promote culture.

In addition, following the recommendation of the Mayor’s Council for Culture, the title of the Patron of Culture has been granted to Remondis sp. z o.o. company. The commemorative statuette was collected by the company director – Ronald Laska.

In accordance with the rules, the honourable mention could be awarded to a natural person, legal person or organisational unit without legal personality, both Polish and foreign, distinguished in 2021 by their activity in support of Szczecin’s culture, including: creators, artists, cultural institutions, NGOs and other entities functioning in the sphere of culture and protection of cultural heritage.

This year’s jubilee gala of presenting the most important artistic awards of the City of Szczecin took place in the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic Hall. The ceremony took place for the thirtieth time.  It was graced by a concert of artists – the winners of the award from previous years. During the event, the following artists performed in front of the audience: Łona&Webber, Piotr Klimek, Agnieszka Wilczyńska, Tulia, Ryszard Leoszewski, Piotr Banach, Sylwester Ostrowksi.
