Almost six months of reconstruction of the John Paul II Avenue

One of the most representative streets in our city will not be decorated this year. That is due to the major repair work that has been carried out along the John Paul II Avenue since June.

The existing road surface and the central reservation strip were demolished at all stages of the reconstruction. The street inlets with connection points are now ready, and the road trenching and stabilisation, with the installation of unbound substructures, have been completed.

“The most advanced works can be observed on the section between the Grunwaldzki Square and the Mazurska Street”, said Hanna Pieczyńska, the spokesperson of the City Road and Transport Authority. “Stone curbs have already been installed, along with the corridor at the central reservation strip including stabilisation for the future bike path. Works are being carried out regarding the profiling of the unbound substructures”.

About the investment

The construction of a new carriageway made of paving stone cubes, footpaths made of large granite slabs and an asphalt bicycle path is planned along the John Paul II Avenue. The crossings will also be made of paving stone cubes. However, they will be installed in a colour contrasting with the cubes arranged in the sections between the crossings.

Parallel parking will be possible on one side of the parking lanes. Safety posts will be situated in places where vehicles are exposed to irregular parking.

The bicycle path, as was previously done, has been planned along the central reservation strip between the carriageways. Bike racks, benches, new trash bins and new bushes will appear once the repair is completed.

The reconstruction of the John Paul II Avenue on the section between Felczaka Street and the Grunwaldzki Square includes, in particular:

- reconstruction of the carriageway,
- reconstruction of pavements,
- reconstruction of traffic lights,
- relocation of conflicting utilities,
- introduction of permanent traffic organisation,
- provision of small architecture and greenery elements,
- reconstruction of the water supply system,
- excavation-free renovation of sewer connections.

Contractor — CONSORTIUM LEADER: Roverpol Sp. z o.o., CONSORTIUM PARTNER: Rover Infraestructuras S.A. has 16 months to complete the task. The contractual deadline for completion of the investment worth PLN 23,862,000.00 gross is the second half of October 2021.
