A new lapidarium is being built

In Chopin Park, a lapidarium is being built next to the red brick chapel that was taken over in 1972 by the Department of Forensic Medicine of the Medical Academy. The work is nearing its completion.
Until the late 1990s, a dissection room operated here. Since that time, the building has been empty. Next to it, there used to be a cemetery. In 2019, Dr Marek Łuczak together with volunteers and with residents of Niemerzyn, conducted a search for tombstones. He found over a dozen of them. Together with the estate council, he applied for the creation of a lapidarium in this place.
The Municipal Services Office has secured the funds and started the investment, which is nearing its end. The works included the creation of a special square with a hardened surface and kerbs.
In addition, maintenance work on uncovered tombstones, which have already been installed, has been conducted. A round bench surrounding the plants has been placed right next to the lapidarium. Upon the entrance, on a specially prepared stand, an informational board will be placed, thank to which we will learn about the history of the cemetery which existed here many years ago.
The works are being carried out by Wiesław Furtak’s company. Their cost is about PLN 150,000. The investment will be completed by the end of June.
