Krzysztof M. Bednarski. Moby Dick. Call me Ishmael

    The Lentz Villa

The opening will be preceded (at 4:30 p.m.) by a lecture by ANNA NIEMCZYCKA-GOTTFRIED. THE ART MARKET: MECHANISMS, TRENDS, PERSPECTIVES in the context of the exhibition and presentation of the sculpture.

The opening at the Villa Lentza is a unique opportunity to experience a poignant metaphor for freedom, discover the unique aesthetics of sculpture, and meet an artist who has been setting new directions in Polish contemporary art for years.

Moby Dick is a work that marked a breakthrough in the artist's career. Bednarski moved from working with widely recognisable symbols to creating original, unique structures that reflect his individual creative path. ‘Moby Dick’ is not an illustration of the plot of H. Melville's novel, but an invitation to reflect on individual freedom, mysticism and one's personal compass in life.

During the vernissage, there will also be a ceremonial unveiling of Krzysztof M. Bednarski's sculpture Sphinx Hommage au Carré Noir in the historical context of the Villa Lentza, as part of the programme ‘Sculpture in Public Space for Independence 2025’.

Sphinx is a tribute by Krzysztof M. Bednarski, one of the most outstanding contemporary sculptors, to the classics of the contemporary avant-garde, led by Malevich. It is the author's response to the mechanism of form reduction, accompanied by a metaphysical turn towards a new logic and non-objective reality.
