Traviata

Katarzyna Jackowska

The Opera at the Castle
The story of a courtesan Violetta, who for the very first time in her life finds a true love, gets rejected and is also terminally ill, has been moving the opera audiences for over a century and a half.
The latest production of Traviata in Szczecin takes the audience into the world of modern extravagance, where just like in a mirror the desperate emotional emptiness of contemporary people is reflected. Following in the footsteps of such films as The Devil wears Prada or Prêt-à-Porter of Altman, Znaniecki builds Violetta's surroundings like a grand fashion show of Vogue, where emotions are less important than the latest trends and business relationships. In the abundant interiors of a Parisian hotel, surrounded by parties and red carpets, spectacular "haute couture" costumes, Violetta will show one more time her contemporary face and will become the symbol of criticism of present-day relationships.
