Grażyna Auguścik Chicago Quintet
Katarzyna Jackowska

The Lentz Villa
When Grażyna Auguścik steps onto the stage, it is clear from the very first notes that something extraordinary is about to happen. Her music is a meeting point of many worlds: tradition and modernity, Europe and America, silence and expression.
Having lived and worked in Chicago for many years, this vocalist, arranger, composer and producer has been widely recognised by American critics as one of the most compelling figures on the international jazz scene. Her style is rooted in jazz, yet draws on a wide range of traditions, including Polish folk music, classical music, Latin rhythms, improvisation and elements of klezmer.
This time, the artist will appear at Villa Lentz together with her accompanying musicians. Yet this ensemble does not function like a conventional backing group for a vocalist. Each instrument enters into dialogue with the voice, while the voice itself does not dominate, but rather provokes, invites and responds. Improvisation becomes a shared language in which silence is just as important as sound.
It takes only a few bars for the audience to sense that they are taking part in something truly special, the creation of music here and now.
