The Soul of Tango is a musical monodrama that evokes the life of Carlos Gardel - the man who gave tango its voice.
On stage, a single actor retraces Gardel’s childhood in Toulouse, his emigration to Buenos Aires, his encounter with José Razzano, and the birth of tango itself. The performance weaves together words, theatre and music, portraying Gardel not only as a legend, but also as a son, a friend and a human being. It leads the audience on a musical journey through the most important moments of his international career — films, tours, and ultimately his tragic death.
Felipe Céspedes takes on the role of Gardel and sings in this poetic tribute, featuring timeless classics such as El día que me quieras, Volver, Por una cabeza and Mi Buenos Aires querido.
This is an intimate, minimalist yet powerful form of theatre, where voice, guitar and accordion are enough to summon the very soul of tango.
