Czat z prezydentem #26 - Szczecin 11.12.2020
Robert Duchowski
It has been flying over the city since the beginning of November and checking what the residents of Szczecin have been burning in their stoves together with catching "polluters".
The drone is equipped with sensors measuring the concentration of harmful substances in the air: formaldehyde, hydrogen chloride, volatile organic compounds and PM10 and PM2.5 suspended dust, which are produced during combustion of prohibited materials in furnaces , at the same time, polluting the air.
The use of the drone allows you to precisely locate the source of pollution and direct a patrol of the City Guard (Straż Miejska) there, which, after an inspection, may impose a fine on the perpetrator.
- The activities are carried out by the Tomkov company and the City Guard in the form of joint patrols directed to previously selected areas, among others, based on the residents' own reports - informs Paulina Łątka from the City Information Center (Centrum Informacji Miasta). - Checks take place both in the morning and in the evening. Only in November, the action covered over 11 thousand buildings in the area of 10 square kilometers. The City Guard undertook 197 control activities with the drone, of which 13 resulted in fines.
The patrols are also equipped with leaflets containing tips on how to burn more economically in the stove and not to smoke, as well as a list of materials that absolutely cannot be used for this purpose. Let us remind you that these comprise:
- contaminated wood waste, e.g. impregnated and varnished;
- materials impregnated with chemical substances;
- plastic packaging and bottles for drinks, paints and varnishes, solvents and other chemical substances;
- used tires and other rubber waste;
- impregnated cardboard.
