This is what Krzysztof Jarzyna from Szczecin will look like!

The figure of Krzysztof Jarzyna, all in black, with a characteristic suitcase and glasses, will appear on the Łasztownia (a river island) in Szczecin no later than next year. The Competition Jury has made their choice from among 5 submitted works.
Krzysztof Jarzyna lived to see real shapes. Today we know what will stand out and what the “boss of all bosses” will look like. At 11.00 a.m. sharp on the ZOOM platform, the competition for the design of an artistic installation commemorating the figure of “Krzysztof Jarzyna from Szczecin - the Boss of All Bosses”, the icon of pop culture, on the Łasztownia in Szczecin, was concluded.
“I would like to thank all the participants of the competition”, said Jarosław Bondar, the city architect. “Each of the works met the requirements of the competition and was of a high standard, as well as demanded a huge amount of work from their authors, which we appreciate very much”.
The authors of the winning work are Ewa Bone and Ewa Kozubal.
The Jury’s verdict was justified as follows: “The selected project has the features of a sculptural installation, and not a monumental approach as such. According to most members of the Jury, the monumental approach is a commemoration of outstanding events or people, while Krzysztof Jarzyna is a fictional character and, as such, should be commemorated by other means of expression than historical heroes or outstanding personalities. The assumptions of the project in the sculptural layer allow a far-reaching interpretation of that fictional character as a cultural phenomenon. The figure presented in the form of a half-shell with the outline of the head and the indispensable glasses clearly indicates Krzysztof Jarzyna, leaving the rest of the character implicit, i.e. in the sphere of fiction, without the direct participation of the actor Edward Linde-Lubaszenko’s portrait, and indirectly expressing the features given to the film character by that excellent actor. In addition, the two-sidedness of the sculpture is very suggestive and can be read as the presence of a person who differs from the rest of society with his non-pushy being and, what is important, without adopting the attitude of a superhero”.
7 participants were admitted to the competition, and 5 works were submitted to the office. The sculpture, inspired by the iconic character from the movie “Poranek Kojota” (“Coyote’s Morning”), will be placed on the Łasztownia premises. The installation is an idea whose implementation was decided by the residents in a popular vote for the Szczecin Civic Budget projects. In its category (specific tasks of the Śródmieście District), it won 1020 votes.
“I have to admit that the Jury’s deliberations were heated, but we have reached a consensus” said Artur Malewski, Chairman of the Competition Jury, representing the Academy of Art in Szczecin.
The total cost of all the works and activities related to creating an installation or sculpture on the basis of the winning competition work cannot exceed PLN 157,500.00.
