The World Architecture Festival (WAF) is an annual event, considered to be one of the most prestigious events dedicated to architecture and development. The Summer Theatre has been nominated for the “Architecture Oscar” award in the Cultural Buildings category as one of 16 best buildings in the world. The modernisation design was developed by the Flanagan Lawrence architectural office based in London, which was selected through a competitive procedure. The Summer Theatre facility is managed by Szczecińska Agencja Artystyczna.
The World Architecture Festival is a unique event that brings together architects from around the world, constituting a platform to exchange knowledge and inspirations, and to learn from one other. It is the only global architecture festival which combines award-giving, seminars and networking.
The nomination is a reflection on the Summer Theatre’s design being recognised as one of the landmark architectural achievements in the world.
The nomination for the Summer Theatre, as one of the finalists from all over the world, is a great honour. We have an absolute gem in the Kasprowicza Park which has already begun to make a name for itself. The top-level music events which the facility is home to certainly contribute to that. For me, it is the most beautiful summer theatre in the country, said Piotr Krzystek, Mayor of Szczecin.
Each year, the WAF awards generate more than 350 press publications worldwide. Coverage for the event is provided by such renowned media as CNN, Al Jazeera, BBC, The New York Times, Domus Web and ArchDaily. This tremendous recognition ensures international visibility.
The WFA finals will take place in November/December in Singapore.
To have our Summer Theatre in the finals of the World Architecture Festival, among the best and most beautiful buildings from all over the world, is wonderful news, highlighting the uniqueness and extraordinary character of the facility. I am proud that it is ours, said Anna Lemańczyk, Director of Szczecińska Agencja Artystyczna.
The WAF competition jury is composed of over 140 architecture experts.
Let us also remind you that the Summer Theatre was recognised as the best Public Space in Poland in the Property Design Awards focusing on investments completed in 2022.
