The Głębokie Interchange - Update from the construction site No. 8

Marta Kufel

Works leading to the resumption of traffic on a new junction are due to be completed shortly. The planned subsequent stage of the works will involve disruptions for drivers along Zegadłowicza St.
The infrastructure on the tram and bus terminus is almost completed. The track layout has been connected. The tramway traction is being mounted, and the track bed has been subject to tamping. The final welds are being made, and minor finishing works are being performed. Before the terminus is placed in operation, a tram test drive will be required.
Works on the construction of an attenuation pond are coming to a close. The concreting has been finished, to be followed by insulation works and backfilling. As part of road works, the construction of the subsequent section of Zegadłowicza St. is due to commence shortly.
Disruptions on Zegadłowicza St.
Due to the construction of a new carriageway on Zegadłowicza St., drivers will need to deal with traffic disruptions as of 12 November. Between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., manual traffic control will be introduced along a section between Miodowa and Kąpieliskowa St. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and, where possible, choose an alternative route in the direction of Police. The disturbances will last for about 2-3 weeks, depending on the pace of works and weather conditions affecting construction work technologies.
About the project
As part of the project, a tram and bus terminus will be developed, together with tram and bus door-to-door platforms, kiss & ride parking spaces, a taxi rank, a bicycle parking, and a city bike rental station. On site the terminus, 8 two-sided bus shelters and street furniture will be fixed, including benches, perch bench seats and waste receptacles. The terminus will house a staff building with a waiting lounge for passengers. The interchange will be equipped with the Passenger Information System and sun-powered charging facilities for mobile devices. As part of the redevelopment of a junction of Wojska Polskiego Ave., Zegadłowicza, Kupczyka, and Miodowa St., a four-exit turbo-roundabout will be built. The project will also include the development of a car park, taking into account the assets of a forest car park and the surrounding tree stand.
The surrounding streets will also be subject to redevelopment. The redevelopment of Wojska Polskiego Ave. includes the design of two double-lane carriageways. A separate pedestrian and cycling lane will be located on the west side, separated from the carriageway with a 3-metre wide vegetated strip. On Zegadłowicza St. a 7 metre-wide carriageway was designed (2 x 3.5 m) along a section between the junction with Wojska Polskiego Ave. and the junction with Kąpieliskowa St. - about 300 metres. Kąpieliskowa St. will also be incorporated into the new road network. On the west side, between the edge of the carriageway and the fence of “Głębokie” bathing site, a 2.5-metre wide two-lane cycling path and a 2.25-metre wide pavement were designed. A section of Miodowa St. will be subject to necessary redevelopment due to the reconstruction of the junction, and the construction of an access road to the terminus. Along Miodowa St., between the existing restaurant building and the tram and bus terminus, a 2-metre wide cycling path with a connection to the forest road network was designed. Near the junction, an approach to the cycling path network will be built from the carriageway on Miodowa St. The project also includes the redevelopment of Kupczyka St. along a section with a length of over 1.8 km. A new six-metre wide carriageway will be built (2x3m) together with pedestrian and cycling lanes, and a cycling path. The works will also include the development of street lighting, a storm drainage system, and the adjustment of underground facilities.
The Szczecińskie Inwestycje Miejskie Sp. z o.o. company is supervising project delivery.
The project is financed as part of the Strategy for Integrated Territorial Investments of the Szczecin Metropolitan Area.
