Revitalisation together with the greenery. Tender announcement

After the announcement of the tender for the reconstruction of Wojska Polskiego Avenue, the time has come to look for a contractor for the comprehensive reconstruction of the neighbouring area - Quarter 36, including: Małkowskiego, ks. Bogusława, Bohaterów Getta Warszawskiego and Królowej Jadwigi Streets. These two investments complement each other and are part of the strategy of revitalisation of the City Centre of Szczecin.

Contractors interested in the rebuilding of Quarter 36 may submit documents until 8 January at 12.00 noon. Details are available on the website of TBS Szczecin, the company implementing this investment: www.stbs.pl.

Comprehensive investment activities are planned within the quarter.

“These will include the construction of a new building with thirty flats, all finished turnkey. Among these premises, half will be for the elderly, including several for people with physical disabilities, and one for foster children,” informs Tomasz Klek, the Spokesperson of the City’s housing department. “The new building will be equipped with a lift, moving between the underground car park and the building roof. The roof is designed as a terrace for walks and a vegetable garden for seniors.”

The ground floor of the building will house a community centre and a nursery for about 30 children. The central part of the quarter will be designated for the main public square. The revitalisation work will also include elements of small architecture, sculptural accents and new greenery. Plenty of this greenery is planned.

Along the main square, in the middle of the quarter, there will be a pergola - a green canopy under which the inhabitants can meet and relax.

“From the central square it will be possible to move freely towards all courtyards in this quarter, to every building and to the community centre and nursery,” says Tomasz Klek. “The central square will also be complemented by a mini amphitheatre, a fountain in the form of floor jets, including benches and greenery.”

On the southern side of the Szczeciński TBS office building, in the area of the corner of the front buildings on Ks. Bogusława X and Małkowskiego Street, a social garden and a playground for children will be constructed. A two-storey underground car park for about 150 vehicles has also been designed in the interior of the quarter.

“A great advantage of this investment is the introduction of parking spaces into the underground garage. This way, we will be able to give the interior of the quarter back to the residents and create a green space for them so they can relax,” announced Grażyna Szotkowska, President of TBS Szczecin. “We want to introduce multiple planting of ornamental trees, shrubs, perennials and grasses. A large area of greenery will be designed on the roofs.”

As part of pro-ecological solutions, the construction of rainwater tanks for watering the designed greenery is also planned.

“Two underground flow tanks and several above-ground reservoirs have been designed on the site,” says Tomasz Klek. “The entire irrigated area is divided into 6 sectors, each with its own control system.”

The total area of green areas will be 3,701 m2, social gardens - 99.30 m2, and green roofs - 491 m2.

The funds for the reconstruction of the quarter will be provided from the Company’s own resources, from the budget of the Municipality of Szczecin (including a subsidy from the Payments Fund) and from a loan from the European Investment Bank granted under the European Structural Investment Fund.

While granting the funds to the company, the EIB emphasised that for the first time in the framework of investments in the housing sector, financed by the Bank, the project focused on green infrastructure, including: integration of green roofs, rainwater drainage systems and other environmental infrastructure.

This is the first such project approved by a European Union bank in Poland and also the earliest time when the funds for this purpose complement the financing of projects in the housing sector in Europe.
