Szczecin's councillors have passed a resolution which expands the Old Town Residential Zone.
The extended Old Town Residential Zone (SZSM) covered the following streets: Kłodna, Środowa, Sienna, Rynek Sienny, Rynek Nowy, Wielka Odrzańska, part of Mała Odrzańska Street from Środowa Street to Opłotki Street, Opłotki Street and Osiek Street.
“The use parking spaces in the area will be subject to a fee from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday on working days,” said Wojciech Jachim, Press Spokesperson of NiOL. “The new part of SZSM will become part of subzone 2, where the parking fee will amount to PLN 1.5 for the first 15 minutes and PLN 0.30 for each following 3 minutes.”
Vehicles can be parked only on designated spaces. According to section 5 of the SZSM rules and regulations, the administrator may charge an additional fee of PLN 200 for parking outside designated spaces regardless of the time of the day, including weekends.
The residents of the SZSM area will be able to purchase the Old Town Pass (PLN 360 per year), which gives the holder to use parking spaces in the entire Old Town Residential Zone.
As stated in the grounds for the resolution, “Adding the area in question to the Old Town Residential Zone will lead to more ordered parking. In addition, extending the Old Town Residential Zone will contribute to a higher rotation of parking vehicles and increase the accessibility of parking spaces.”
18 councillors voted in favour of the project, 7 were against, and 2 abstained.
The resolution will enter into force 14 days of the date of its announcement in the Official Journal of the Westpomeranian Region.
This is another stage of parking rules changes in the Old Town.
The first part of the Old Town Residential Zone was created on 1 February 2021, covering the following streets: Łaziebna and Mariacka, part of Tkacka Street, the section from Żołnierza Polskiego Street to Grodzka Street, part of Staromłyńska Street, the section from Żołnierza Polskiego Street to the intersection with Koński Kierat Street and Łaziebna Street, part of Koński Kierat Street, the section from Mariacka Street to Farna Street, part of Staromiejska Street from Grodzka Street to Wyszyńskiego Street.
The parking spaces on Orła Białego Square will belong subzone 1, where the parking fee will amount to PLN 2.5 for the first 15 minutes and PLN 0.50 for each following 3 minutes.”
Some of the parking spaces are available 24/7 only to the holders of the Old Town Pass. Designated parking spaces for residents are located on Koński Kierat Street, Mariacka Street and the spur road between Tkacka and Staromłyńska Streets parallel to Łaziebna Street.
The purpose of the Old Town Residential Zone is to create an attractive public space to showcase the historic features of the Old Town, and make it convenient and safe for pedestrians as well as tailored to the needs of residents and local businesses. The claim to increase the rotation of parking spaces by raising the parking fee was made by residents and businesspeople during prototyping.
An important addition to the Old Town parking system is the Trasa Zamkowa Unguarded Paid Car Park, with a parking fee of PLN 2 per hour.
SZSM and the Trasa Zamkowa Unguarded Paid Car Park are managed by NiOL sp. z o.o.
