Green Yards and Front Gardens. Call for proposals

The Local Building and Housing Authority in Szczecin has issued another call for proposals to award funding for the restoration of areas adjacent residential buildings. The proposal documents may be submitted by 01 March 2021.
The grey, concrete, “well-like” yards and run-down areas by the building are changing into green spaces for recreation thanks to the two municipal programmes called “Green Yards” and “Green Front Gardens”. This green revolution has made its way already into 200 areas over the last 13 years.
This year Szczecin residents will again be given the opportunity to get funding for their renovation efforts. “Funding may be applied for by housing communities which have local authority housing in their resources, or by housing associations (TBS), provided that they have entered into an agreement to use municipal areas adjacent to their buildings.
Financial support will be provided for a range of measures and solutions, such as new plantings, hedges, lawns, the renovation of existing green spaces along with the associated infrastructure and leisure and resting spots such as benches, alleys, shelters, pergolas, playgrounds, etc.,” said Tomasz Klek, Szczecin's press spokesman for housing affairs. “The Municipality will reimburse housing communities with 75% of their costs incurred to carry out restoration projects, with the exception of building playgrounds, a whopping 95% of which will be funded as part of the programmes.
Last year the programmes funded the restoration of eight yards and six front gardens. You can see the nice, fresh look of these spots at 2 Zygmunta Starego, 101 Bohaterów W-wy, 17 Szarotki, 80 Jagiellońska and 56-58 Potulicka Streets.
Szczecin got its first Green Yards in 2008. A total of 137 yards have been restored since then thanks to the funding provided by the Municipality. Over the last 13 years the housing communities have received a total of over PLN 14.4 million in financial support.
The Green Front Gardens programme was launched in 2015, and it has been widely popular ever since, too. A total of 63 projects have been completed over the five years the programme has been in place, with more than PLN 4 million in total funding provided for this purpose by the Municipality.
