      Another offshore giant chooses Szczecin

Recent days have seen many great economic news for our city. Last week, Vestas announced the construction of its second factory in Szczecin, and just now another offshore giant, the Spanish company Windar Renovables, has confirmed its plans to build a facility in the city. On 16 January, the company signed the final lease agreement with the Szczecin and Świnoujście Port Authority regarding the lands situated on Ostrów Grabowski. This is where it intends to build a factory to produce wind towers.

In October, Windar’s representatives concluded a preliminary agreement with the Port Authority and now, by signing the final documents, they have confirmed their plans. Based on the agreement, wind tower components for offshore and onshore wind farms will be produced on an area of approximately 17 ha located in the Szczecin port. In addition, the factory will also produce offshore and onshore foundation structures, mast or metal tower structures, etc. The XXL-sized offshore wind towers produced in Szczecin will be designed for new-generation turbines with an installed capacity of 20 MW.

The produced components will be transported, among others, by sea. Windar is planning to launch operations in the capital of the Westpomeranian Region in the first half of 2026. The investment is expected to create at least 400 jobs, and the project value on the investor’s side is estimated at EUR 70 million.

“Windar’s decision to establish a factory in our city is a continuation of the positive scenario for Szczecin which we could only dream about. First Vestas and now Windar confirm their investment plans in very concrete terms. These envisage three powerful factories, producing components for the offshore industry, to be built in our city. Together, they will create thousands of well-paid jobs, permanently changing the economic landscape of Szczecin”, said Piotr Krzystek, Mayor of Szczecin.

Overall, Vestas and Windar are planning to employ over 2000 people in their Szczecin-based factories, making the city the offshore capital of Poland. This finds confirmation in numerous facts. In addition to the investment plans made by Windar and Vestas, a lot will also be going on in the entire region. Among other things, an installation terminal for offshore wind farms is under construction in Świnoujście, and the Ministry of Infrastructure has announced the construction of four wind farms close to Kołobrzeg, with Orlen Neptun planning to build 280 wind turbines, with a total capacity of 4.2 GW.
