      2021 road traffic summary

A very busy year, difficult in many aspects, is behind us. Regardless of financial or personnel limitations, Szczecin has managed to renovate several dozen streets and paved paths, and the city's infrastructure is gradually changing for the better. The following summary covers only the tasks of ZDiTM (The Roads and Municipal Transport Authority), while there were also numerous projects completed by other municipal units.

As part of ongoing maintenance, new overlays were provided on, among others, Wyszyńskiego, Farna, Sołtysia, Eskadrowa, Gdańska, Pyrzycka, Goleniowska, Marii Dąbrowskiej, Łubinowa, Piaseczna, Strzałowska, Rugiańska, Światowida, Żołnierska and Miodowa Streets.

One of the examples of positive improvements for pedestrians and cyclists are the developments in the area around Zawadzkiego Street, where, in addition to new walkways and bus bays, work is underway to build a cycle path.

“The path will be almost 700 metres long,” said Hanna Pieczyńska, the spokeswoman for ZDiTM. “It will start at the place where it connects with the cycle path that is being built as part of the reconstruction of Szafera Street, and will end at the existing pedestrian crossing in Zawadzkiego Street, at the junction with Klonowica Street. At the start and end of the section, in the vicinity of existing bus bays, bicycle parking spaces with bicycle stands (5 bicycle stands each) have been designed.

      Ongoing maintenance in figures:

      - replacement of asphalt surfacings covering an area of approx. 115,000 m2

      - partial repairs of asphalt surfacings covering an area of approx. 36,000 m2

      - minor repairs, replacement of surfacings and construction of new paved paths – 22,000 m2

During the past year, work was completed on Hrubieszowska and Jodłowa Streets, some modifications were mode on Mickiewicza Street, an interchange with a P&R car park was opened in Podjuchy, and we opened another restored quarter in the city centre.

Also, we provided drivers with more traffic waiting time displays to make driving around the city more comfortable. Thanks to these devices, drivers know when the red light will turn on or how long they will have to wait for the green light. The equipment has been installed in our city for several years and has met with positive feedback from drivers and pedestrians.

At the Struga / Gryfińska junction, the traffic light controller has been replaced and integrated into the dynamic line coordination system, and 23 accommodative time displays have been installed. Altogether, 424 devices will be installed at 53 junctions in Szczecin.

The year 2021 saw the beginning of work on Okólna Street and in the Turzyn area. We would like to remind that the construction of the paved path in Ogrodnicza Street from Dzwonkowa Street to Górna Street is in progress, as well is the renewal of the paved path in Szosa Polska Street along the section from Nehringa Street to Ogrodnicza Street and in Krasickiego Street. Work is underway to reconstruct the road pavement and paved paths in Papieża Jana Pawła II Avenue along the section from Grunwaldzki Square to Felczaka Street and the Walecznych - Mączna roundabout.

      New year means new challenges

We have started with the reconstruction of Ruska Street. Moreover, we are planning to announce tendering procedures for, among others, the construction of Olszynka Grochowska Street from Dąbska Street to property number 10, Bernardyńska Street, the construction of a paved path along Broniewskiego Street from Arkońska Street to property number 14, Boniewskiego Street and parking spaces on Maksymiliana Jackowskiego Street.

“As part of ongoing maintenance, we are intending to renovate, among others, Wojska Polskiego Street from Unii Lubelskiej Street by replacing surfacings in connection with the construction of the Głębokie, Krasickiego, Mączna, Pszenna and Kolorowe Domów junction,” said Hanna Pieczyńska, press spokesperson of ZDiTM. “However, the commencement of these works must wait until spring, when the weather conditions are more favourable.”
