The Festival of the Griffin returns to the Castle after several years, celebrating one of Pomerania’s most important symbols and the legacy of the Griffin dynasty.
The griffin, a mythical and powerful creature, has appeared in the region’s heraldry for centuries. As the symbol of the Pomeranian dukes, it was already present on a seal in 1194, while the oldest known depiction of the Pomeranian Griffin comes from the seal of Duke Bogusław II, dated 1214.
On Saturday 26 September, the Castle Terraces will become a meeting place with history. Historical re-enactments, combat demonstrations, traditional crafts, music, costumes, customs and elements of everyday life will take visitors back to past eras and offer a closer look at the culture of the former Duchy of Pomerania.
The programme will also include presentations inspired by life at the ducal court and cuisine rooted in historical traditions, introducing visitors to the tastes and culinary customs of the past. There will also be attractions for the whole family.
