The WoWaKin & Friends concert presents the musical traditions of rural Poland in a way that goes beyond the simple divide between “folk” and “classical” music.
The ensemble draws on the rich musical heritage of Mazovia, especially the Sanniki region, whose distinctive rhythms and ornamentation had a clear influence on Fryderyk Chopin’s mazurkas. The programme also includes music from the Lublin, Podlasie and Radom regions.
In WoWaKin’s interpretations, traditional obereks, mazurkas and wiwats regain their original energy and finesse, while also becoming a source of reflection on form, rhythm, scale and the enduring local musical idioms that have inspired art music for centuries.
