Wolna Grupa Bukowina is a Polish musical group rooted in the sung poetry genre, established in the early 1970s.
The band made its debut in 1971 at the Tourist Song Festival (Giełda Piosenki Turystycznej) in Szklarska Poręba. They arrived from Busko-Zdrój, founded by then–secondary school graduate Wojciech Bellon. With Wojciech’s song Ponidzie, they won one of the festival’s top prizes. From the outset, Wolna Grupa Bukowina adopted an open line-up format, collaborating over the years with many notable Polish musicians and performers. The core members have been: Wojciech Bellon, lyricist and principal songwriter, Grażyna Kulawik, Wojciech Jarociński and Wacław Juszczyszyn.
In addition to an extensive discography, the group has earned numerous accolades at Polish music festivals, including the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole, the Student Song Festival in Kraków, and the FAMA student arts festival. They have twice performed for an audience of 150,000 at the Woodstock Festival Poland (Przystanek Woodstock). Internationally, they have played concerts across Europe as well as for Polish communities in Canada, the United States, and Ireland.
For over 52 years, Wolna Grupa Bukowina has continued to perform regularly across Poland, attracting new generations of devoted fans. Today, they hold a well-established and influential place on the Polish music scene.
