The concert To Those Who Did Not Return from the Sea... is a long-standing annual event held in the evocative setting of Szczecin’s Central Cemetery – the largest in Poland, the third largest in Europe, and one of the city's most beautiful parklands.
For over 20 years, this concert has honoured those whose lives were bound to the sea, and who were claimed by it for their final watch. The evening opens with a maritime ceremony, followed by a concert accompanied by atmospheric lighting that enhances the solemnity and poetry of the setting. Each year, this moving tribute draws over a thousand attendees.
This year’s performance features Giuseppe Verdi’s monumental Messa da Requiem, performed by soloists, the orchestra and choir of the Opera at the Castle, and the Singakademie choir from Frankfurt (Oder).
