Symphonic Monuments | Mozart

Szczecin Philharmonic
Why do some works become famous across the world, while others remain known only to specialists? The new season of Symphonic Monuments continues the search for the ideas, meanings and stories behind the most celebrated orchestral pieces.
This time, Przemysław Neumann and the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra turn to Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550, one of the most recognisable works in classical music. Its opening motif is familiar to almost everyone, yet the symphony remains full of mystery. We do not know exactly why Mozart wrote it, or whether he ever heard it performed in the form he wanted.
The lecture before the concert will explore the many layers of this extraordinary piece: its emotional power, precise construction and lasting cultural impact. The work has even been used in scientific studies examining how music affects the body and nervous system.
In other words, Mozart really can make us feel better – and that is exactly what Symphonic Monuments is about.
