The 22nd Edition of Jan Waraczewski’s "Music on the Water" Series
This marks the 22nd edition of the "Music on the Water" outdoor concert series created by Jan Waraczewski. This time, the Dąbie marina will resonate with the greatest hits of Helena Majdaniec, the big beat singer known as the “Queen of Twist.”
Songs from her repertoire will be performed by Szczecin artists in modern arrangements by Krzysztof Baranowski and Patryk Walczak. Baranowski is also the mastermind and director of the entire concert, which premiered under the title "Było tak już raz" during the opening of the Szczecin Summer Theatre in July 2022. The performers will be accompanied by over 30 instrumentalists from the Szczecin Philharmonic Big Band and the Symphony Orchestra of the Szczecin Philharmonic. The theme, style of performance, and song arrangements aim to connect audiences of all ages, from those who remember Helena to younger listeners familiar with big beat through artists like Ada Rusowicz.
"Music on the Water," organised annually despite the absence of its charismatic creator, draws large crowds. Each year, more than a thousand people gather at the marina in Dąbie, by the lakeside stage. This unique blend of music and sailing—Jan Waraczewski’s two greatest passions as a violinist and longtime concertmaster of the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra—makes each concert exceptional.
