International Saxophone Festival
Katarzyna Jackowska

Szczecin Philharmonic
Founded in 2003, the International Saxophone Festival is a unique event promoting classical music with the saxophone in a leading role.
The festival programme features a rich and varied selection of concerts, ranging from the latest compositions to arrangements of works from earlier periods. Each year, the festival brings together artists from Poland and abroad, as well as chamber ensembles and saxophone orchestras.
The Philharmonic concert will include works by Maurice Ravel, Edvard Grieg and Georges Bizet. A special place in the programme will be given to two world premieres, with new compositions by Anna Maria Huszcza and Chiel Meijering, written to showcase the full expressive potential of the saxophone.
The concert will feature soloists and ensembles representing diverse strands of the contemporary saxophone scene, including American saxophonists Thomas Giles, an outstanding interpreter of contemporary repertoire, and Wildy Zumwalt, a respected soloist, educator and researcher of the instrument’s history.
Szczecin’s music community will be represented by PS Duo, Julita Przybylska and Urszula Szyryńska, as well as pianists Dorota Maciaszczyk and Dominik Wizjan. The stage will also welcome the Impression Saxophone Ensemble and the Festival Saxophone Orchestra, both conducted by Dariusz Samól, saxophonist, educator and founder of the festival.
