The Soul of Tango is a musical monodrama that evokes the life of Carlos Gardel, the man who gave tango its voice. On stage, a single actor recreates his childhood in Toulouse, his emigration to Buenos Aires, his meeting with José Razzanoand the birth of tango.
The performance weaves together word, theatre and music, presenting Gardel not only as a legend but also as a son, a friend and a human being. It leads the audience on a musical journey through the most important moments of his international career, his films, his tours and, finally, his tragic death.
Felipe Céspedes takes on the role of Gardel and sings in this poetic tribute, featuring timeless classics such as El día que me quieras, Volver, Por una cabeza and Mi Buenos Aires querido.
This is intimate, minimalist theatre of great emotional power, where voice, guitar and accordion are enough to summon the soul of tango.
