Country Feast for Jacek Nieżychowski

Jacek Nieżychowski was a true connoisseur and lover of fine food; culinary arts were among his greatest passions. He was the sort of man you'd encounter in places known for their stylish and exquisite dining.

He was often described as a perfect gentleman, and the delighted exclamation of food lovers suited him perfectly: "Holy dumpling with gravy!"

Nieżychowski embodied the spirit of a bygone landed gentry, who maintained a deep connection with nature and followed a life rhythm marked by the changing seasons, the cycles of sowing and harvest, and periods of carefree enjoyment.

In his desire to pass on this art to future generations while preserving a piece of his own family’s history, he published a remarkable cookbook in 1999 titled Rustic Cuisine: Blessed Four Seasons. The book contains stories that evoke memories of the author's family home, accompanied by family photographs and rural landscapes, evoking an atmosphere of days gone by. A key part of the book is the collection of recipes, reflecting the changing seasons depicted in the photos. The dishes are as rich in flavour as the entire Nieżychowski family history.

As part of the celebrations for the Year of Jacek Nieżychowski, we invite you to a festive banquet held in the elegant surroundings of the castle's O. Gallery, once the chambers of the prince. The menu will be based on recipes from Nieżychowski’s culinary book, as well as traditional manor house cuisine.

The feast will be accompanied by live music, performed by artists from the Castle Opera and the Polish Theatre. The short artistic programme will be enhanced with anecdotes and humorous memories of Jacek Nieżychowski and his love for cooking, shared by his family, friends, and acquaintances.

Tickets for the banquet are available exclusively at the Opera House box office. Seats are numbered, and there is a single price for all available tables.
