Żagle 2022: Two shanty stages

It is hard to imagine a sailing festival without thematic music. Therefore, the shanty stage is essential and it should be perfectly displayed. The Sailing Centre will prepare it on the observation deck – right next to the Centaur. However, it will not be the only one. The second shanty stage can be found on board the ORP Toruń. Over the three days of the event, bands will be performing on the stages, bringing tens of thousands of people not only into a great mood, but also into the Szczecin sailing atmosphere.
The shanty stage located on the terrace of the Chrobry Embarkment will resound with music from 2 p.m. on Friday. It is then that rehearsals will begin, but it will be an opportunity to see how the musicians prepare for their performances. The concerts will begin at 6 p.m. with a performance by Folk Wagon.
Folk Wagon comes from Szczecin. They play broadly defined road and travel music interspersed with elements of folk from the islands and seas of the north. As they write about themselves: “It is seven great people among whom there are the bad, good and the ugly who will take you on an energetic expedition through the American prairie, smoky saloons, Irish pubs, harbour taverns and the trails that through land and water have traversed since time immemorial, restless souls”.
Another Szczecin band in this chart is Emerald, which was founded in 1992. It is a folk-rock band that will perform old Irish hits in rock and roll arrangements.
Saturday with the Pioruners
On Saturday 20 August, Klang will perform at 4 p.m., followed by The Nierobbers at 5:15 p.m., then Drake, Ryczące Dwudziestki and finally the Pioruners. The Pioruners have a track record of considerable success. Among others, they received an award at the ‘Shanties’ shanty festival in Kraków. It is the most important shanty festival in the country. The performances on this stage will end at 10 p.m.
On Sunday, the performances on the Chrorby Embarkment stage will start at 2 p.m. and end at 6:45 p.m. During this time Zejman and Garkumpel will perform with a repertoire for the youngest audience, as well as Atlantis, the Trzy Majtki band and the Slovakian group Cendes Orchestra.
Scene on ORP Toruń
The second stage, also located in an impressive location as the first, will be on board the ORP Toruń. The vessel will be moored at the Nabrzeże Pasażerskie. The concert on it will take place on 20 and 21 August. On Saturday, Ryczące Dwudziestki will perform at 5 p.m., followed by the band Za Horyzontem at 6:15 p.m. However on Sunday, we will listen to the duo Tyszkiewicz and Szmytke here at 4 p.m., the band Formacja at 5:00 p.m. and the performances will conclude at 6:15 p.m. with musicians from the Szczecin band Los Cafe.
